The outdoors is beautiful in the Estes Park area, and one of the best ways to experience it is from the comfort of your car.
Gather the family, pack a picnic lunch and enjoy one of these scenic drives near Estes Park:
Trail Ridge Road
This popular drive takes you along the highest continually paved road in the United States. Enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery, including alpine tundra and dense forests, along your way to the highest point, which is 12,183 feet above sea level. The drive takes about two hours, with the option of making it a full day and stopping for hikes along the way.
Peak to Peak Scenic Byway
This drive features several old mines along the way, some of which allow guests to pan for a fee. Kids will love the experience of panning for gold, even if they don’t find any. The byway is particularly stunning in the fall, when its many aspen stands turn a brilliant shade of gold. Year-round, you’ll get amazing views of Mount Meeker, Longs Peak and the Twin Sisters.
Glen Haven Drive
No need to pack snacks for this one. This drive takes you to the historic town of Glen Haven, where you can stop and try the famous cinnamon rolls available at the town’s general store.
Old Fall River Road
This drive follows a river, meaning that it’s a great route for spotting wildflowers in spring.
